A diferença está nos detalhes / The difference is in the details

Nesta fase de mega arrumações e organização, para começar o mês de Setembro com tudo organizadinho, resolvemos redecorar a sala. Mudar as cores, que são as mesmas há anos, trocar umas coisitas.... A verdade é que a decoração vai-se construindo. Não é bem entrar numa loja, gastar um balúrdio e chegar a casa e pôr tudo nos sitios. E se fosse assim não tinha metade da piada. Quem é que gosta de uma decoração "basta juntar água"? Eu não.

We have decided to restyle our living room, as we're going through a major organizing and clean up chez nous. Changing colours, that have been the same for years, chaging some small things... The truth is that decorating is an ongoing task. It's not like you go into a shop, spend a fortune and get home to put things in their places. It wouldn't be half as fun it things worked this way. Who likes a "ready made" decor? I don't.

Ainda assim, há sítios onde temos a perfeita noção de que tudo o que lá existe tem a nossa cara e que serviria como uma luva em nossa casa. Aqueles detalhes pequeninos que fazem com que fiquemos apaixonados pelo canto da sala onde pusemos o sofá para ler, ou o cesto da lenha para a lareira. Não sabemos explicar, mas também não é preciso. Gostamos e pronto.

Even though, there are places where we are sure that everything they have has our name written all over and would fit like a glove at our home. Those small details that make us fall in love with the corner of our living room where the reading nook is or the basket for the logs. We just don't know how to explain, but we really don't have to. We like it and that's what counts.

Foi assim que me senti quando vi o catálogo da Cox & Cox hoje. Acho que trazia tudo para casa. A escolha é difícil. Mas a sensação de estar em casa foi grande.

A semana de todas as listas / To-do list's week

Estou a aproveitar esta última semana de férias para pôr tudo em ordem para a rentrée. Para mim, o ano começa em Setembro, não em Janeiro. Vira-se a casa do avesso, limpa-se, lava-se, arruma-se, organiza-se chega-se estafada ao fim do dia mas feliz por ver as coisas a mexer!

I'm taking advantage of this last week of holidays to have everything ready for new season. For me, the year starts in September, not in January. The house is turned upside down, cleaning up, washing up, organizing... I'm dead tired at the end of the day but happy to see things moving!

Uma coisa que me ajuda imenso são as listas dos costume. Sou completamente viciada em listas e faço-as por tudo e por nada. E para ajudar à festa, encontrei estas no Creativity Prompt. Wednesday's Break

Hoje quero levar-vos a casa de alguém que não conheço, mas que sinto que conheço há uma resma de anos. Tem um blog que visito todos os dias, apesar de saber que a maioria dos posts "saem" à sexta onde o que é escrito não é mais do que a vida do dia-a-dia de alguém que, ao mudar-se da cidade para o campo, vive ao máximo sem esquecer o que é importante, que tal como nós vive as dificuldades diárias de quem tem filhos e casa para orientar. Tudo isto com fotografias fantásticas a acompanhar, sempre muitos livros de decoração à mistura e costura ( a Mila faz coisas giríssimas e podem visitar a loja dela aqui!).

Today, I want you to visit somebody I have never met but that I feel that I've known her for years. She has a blog that I visit everyday, although I know most posting is done on Fridays. She writes about the daily life of somebody who moved from the city into the country side and lives at it's best never forgeting the important things, that, just like us, knows how difficult daily life is with kids and a home to run. Everything mixed with nice photos and a lot of books on interior desing and organizing and crafting (Mila's crafts are great and she even has a store that you can visit here!)

Wednesday's break

Quer tenham regressado de férias ou ainda não tenham ido de férias, esta é das fases mais complicadas para quem trabalha. Não apetece, não puxa, não dá. Não há posição na cadeira e ainda saltamos quando o telefone toca. Ficamos ofendidos por receber e-mails de gente que faria melhor se estivesse quieta. Mantendo a tradição dos nossos amigos franceses, levamos a quarta feira com calma (porque é um dia que não ajuda) e paramos nem que seja por 5 minutos. Aproveita-se para ler a Gatherings. Mais uma revista digital, diferente de todas as outras, com muita inspiração e que facilmente nos deixa a divagar. E vocês, costumam seguir as novas revistas digitais? Gostam ou preferem a boa e velha revista em papel?

Either you returned from your holidays or haven't started them yet, this is one of the worst phases for those who work. You just can't. You can't sit properly on your desk and get scared when the phone rings. We get offended only for getting e-mails from people who would do better if they were quiet. Keeping up with the french tradition, we tackle Wednesday with ease (it just doesn't help) and stop if only for 5 minutes. Take the chance to read Gatherings. Wednesday's break

Os franceses fazem sempre uma pausa às quartas. Nunca percebi bem porquê, mas por exemplo, os miúdos têm as tardes de quarta feira livres, se não o dia todo. Por mim não me importava nada. A quarta não é carne, nem peixe. Não é principio nem fim. É ovos.

The french always make a break on Wednesdays. I never understood why, but for instance, kids always have Wednesdays afternoons free, if not the whole day. I wouldn't mind. Wednesdays are the worst day of the week. It's not the begining, it's not the end. It simply isn't.

Por isso, já que aqui para os nossos lados não descansamos, resolvi mostrar-vos estas imagens de um apartamento algures na Suécia do que entendi (obrigada, Google Translator, estropício da minha vida). Palavras para quê? É poesia e descanso puros.

So, as we don't have this break I decided to show you some images of an apartment somewhere in Sweden (Google Translator, thanks for not helping). Why should I write about it? It's pure bliss. And we can rest just by looking at them.

My life inside my bag

Depois de ter visto o post da Carla, apeteceu-me mostrar o que vai dentro da minha carteira. Sim, eu chamo-lhe carteira, porque na minha terra chama-se carteira. Malas são para as viagens! Devo carregar praí uns 30 quilos de coisas várias e indispensáveis. O meu marido recusa-se a procurar o que seja dentro da carteira com medo que alguma coisa o morda. Faltam os cigarros, a máquina fotográfica e brinquedos que por lá vão vivendo (ou não houvesse um filho na minha vida). Se perco alguma coisa, a minha vida fica feita num oito.

After reading Carla's post, I felt like showing the contents on my huge bag to the world. I thing I carry around 30 kg of absolutely needed stuff. My husband refuses to put his hands inside my bag, as he fears that something may bite him. My camera, cigarrettes and random toys that land there are missing (after all, there's a kid in my life). If I loose something, I feel like I'm dead.

Changes....

Pronto, está quase. Apresento-vos o novo look do blog. Depois de muito pensar, resolvi mudar, limpar, alterar, pôr novo. Um novo logo só meu porque este blog já é uma instituição e merece, juntar os produtos da Tia Anica! porque assim é mais fácil e a divulgação mais abrangente. Uma limpeza no sidebar, de coisas que passaram para páginas que podem encontrar no topo. Ainda faltam algumas coisas, mas o grande já está.Agora, só quero saber se gostam. Bora, fico à espera desses comentários!

Almost there. I present you the new look of my blog. After thinking about it (and listening to some experts' opinion ;) ), I decided to change, clean up, move, put new things. The new logo is only mine as this blog already deserved it, putting Tia Anica's products here as it is easier and I can reach more people. The sidebar was cleaned up and the things I removed are now in separate pages that you can find on top. Some things are still missing, but the most part is done. Now, I'm waiting for your comments!

Uma nova estação / A new season

O que me agrada na mudança de estação é a quantidade de catálogos cheios de ideias que recebo nesta altura. Hoje foi o da Toast (e mais uma série deles) que vem cheio de imagens inspiradoras, ideias aparentemente fáceis para aplicarmos em casa. Apetece abrir as janelas, deitar tudo fora e deixar estes objectos simples entrar porta dentro. Seguem alguns dos meus preferidos. Já escolheram os vossos?

What I like about the season change is the amount of catalogues full of ideas I receive around this time. Today, it was Toast's (and a whole lot more of them), full of inspiring images, ideas that seem to be quite easy to use at home. I feel like throwing everything outside the window and let these simple objects come into my house. Some of my favourites are below. Have you chosen yours?

CAL - Update

Afinal, ao contrário do que esperava, estou a gostar, não consigo largar e vou ficar triste quando acabar. Normalmente, entusiasmo-me imenso com as coisas, entusiasmo esse que se mantém durante 3 ou 4 meses e depois vai desaparecendo. Com o CAL não. Comecei devagarinho, passou a vício, a querer aproveitar todos os minutos, a esquecer-me de fazer o jantar. E aqui está ela. Há de ser uma manta para a nova decoração da sala - ou se não me convencer muito, vai para o nosso quarto. Podem ver o resto do desenvolvimento do CAL aqui.

Afterall, against all odds and my feelings, I'm loving it, I just can't put it down and will be sad when it ends. Usually, I get to enthusiastic with stuff I love for 3 or 4 months and then it slows down. It didn't happen with the CAL. I started slowly, it became an addiction, wanting to take advantage of every free minute, forgetting about cooking dinner. And here it is. It'll be a plaid for the new decor of the living room - or if I feel it has become to much, it's going to our bedroom. You can get updates from other CAL participants here.

Começar bem o ano / The right start for the new year

Depois de ter tido uns meses super atarefados com encomendas para o Natal, heis que a minha amiga Mila lança um desafio para o ar: Pegarmos nas lãs e agulhas e começar a fazer granny squares!

Meu dito, meu feito. Depois de pegar nas noções que tinha guardadas no fundo da minha cabeça, pedir ajuda aqui e ali (obrigada, Júlia!!), lá consegui encarreirar.

A escolha das cores foi mais difícil, mas aproveitei que quero mudar a nossa sala para fazer uma manta para o sofá. Como quero dar um ar mais soft à cores da sala, decidi-me pelo branco sujo, azul e castanho/beige/cinzento (é difícil de definir!). E sabem que mais? Arranjei um novo vício. Não se consegue parar!

After having some very busy months with Christmas orders, my friend Mila has challenged us: pick up our yarns and needles and knit Granny Squares!

That said, I started right away. After getting all the knitting notions I had kept in my head for so long time and asking for help (thanks, Júlia!), i managed to start.

The choice of colours was the hardest part, mas as I want to redecorate our living room, I started kniting a throw for our of our couches. As I want softer colours around, I decided to use white, blue and beije(or brown, or gray - it's dificult to define!). And you know what? It's my new addiction. I just can't stop!

A sonhar... / Dreaming...

... com o dia em que arranjo um bom motivo para comprar um ficheiro destes. Em carvalho, com cartões feitos de papel reciclado. Feito artesanalmente pela Sharilyn, no Canadá, faz-me querer voltar aos tempos antigos em que não havia outra forma de mantermos os nossos contactos senão assim. E depois, juntava-lhe este desenrolador de fita cola com fita de papel linda de morrer.

... of the day I find a good reason to buy a file like this. Made out of maple, with cards made out of recycled paper. It's handcrafted by Sharylin, from Canada, it makes me wanting to go back to the old times, when there was no other way of keeping our contacts. Then, I would get this wooden tape dispenser to keep it company, with great masking tape.

Ode a um dia cinzento / Ode to a grey day

Hoje, parece que finalmente o Outono chegou. O nevoeiro é tanto que não deixa ver a Serra de Sintra. Já caíram uns pingos. Ainda não está frio, mas já tinha saudades do tempo assim. Ainda assim, não deixo de achar que no que diz respeito à decoração de cá de casa, não pode faltar cor. E muita.

E por isso é que adorei as páginas do catálogo da RICE. Cor não lhes falta, pormenores lindos de morrer que mudam a decoração de qualquer canto por mais pequeno que seja. E fiquei doida com as agulhas de tricot e a fita métrica forrada. Quero!!

It looks like Autumn has finally arrived today. We have so much fog that we can't see the Serra de Sintra. It rained a little bit. It's not cold yet, but I missed this weather. Nevertheless, I still think that colour must be used a lot in my home decor.

That's why I'm ecstatic with the new RICE catalogue. It has lots of colour, details to die for that change the looks of the smallest corner in our place. And the knitting needles and the covered measuirng tape are great. I want them!

Para partilhar / To share

Setembro é um bom mês para o que quer que seja. Para partilhar também.

Encontrei no Make It Perfect o resultado de uma tarde que começou para ser para estudar e que depois divergiu (E eu sei o que é isso!)para coisas bem mais agradáveis.

A Leanne fez uns posters com ditados e dizeres do dia a dia e pediu à Toni para os pôr à disposição de todos. Podem ser impressos em folhas A4 e colados pela casa fora!

Visitem o Make It Perfect e vejam se encontram o vosso preferido. Eu não consegui escolher. E não se esqueçam de agradecer à Toni e à Leanne.

September is a good month for whatever you feel like. And to share too. I found the result of an afternoon of pleasant work, instead of real study (I also know how that feels) via Make It Perfect.

Leanne picked up daily sayings and transformed them in art prints and then asked Toni to share them with everyone. Basically, you can print them out in A4 sheets and hang them around the house.

Visit Make It Perfect and try to pick your favourite. I just couldn't take only one. And don't forget to thank Toni and Leanne.

Simples tão especial, não há / So simple, it's special

Nesta onda de férias, em que não nos preocupamos com nada (até eu consigo sair de casa sem fazer a cama) e tudo parece simples, resolvi mostrar-vos esta maisonnette no Luberon, França para que vissem que não é preciso muito para que se consiga um ambiente muito acolhedor onde provavelmente até eu era capaz de viver fora de férias!

Não há telefone, nem televisão ou internet e os proprietários tentaram manter tudo o mais original possível, ou seja, reformar a casa sem grandes luxos e quando necessário, utilizar materiais ecológicos. Resultado final: um canto fantástico para descansar no Inverno ou Verão com a família e os amigos!

During this summer holiday season, when we take things easy (even I'm able to leave the house without doing my bed!), I want to show you a maisonnette (small house, in French), in the area of Luberon, France, so that you can see that we don't need a lot to have a super cosy environment where probably, even I would be able to live during work time!

There's no phone, TV or internet connection and the owners have tried to keep things as original as possible, meaning, repairing the house without any luxuries and, when needed, using eco-friendly materials. The final result: a great corner to lounge either in Winter or Summer with family and friends!

Mini casa de fim de semana / Mini weekend home

É uma antiga garagem para guardar barcos, com 17m2 que foi remodelada para casa de fim de semana. Não tem água corrente nem electricidade, mas está à beira da água e tem imenso estilo.

Só não sei se conseguia viver sem água...

It's an old garage to store boats, with 17 m2 that has been made over for a weekend home. It doesn't have water or electricity, but it's near the water and has lots of style.

I just don't know if I'd be able to live without water...

Boas ideias / Good ideas

Conheço uma menina a quem deram uma parede branca e disseram: "Faz o que quiseres com ela." Podia ter sido uma folha de papel, mas uma parede é muito mais apetecível e tem menos limites que uma folha branca. E ela assim fez. Pensou e começou a colar. Aos poucos. Devagarinho. Para mim, que assisti a esta parede crescer (via Flickr) durante uma tarde, pareceu-me que foi um brainstorming, uma fúria que lhe deu por aquela parede branca estar para ali abandonada há tanto tempo. E deu-lhe o tratamento que ela merece. E ficou fantástico!

A dona desta parede é a Andreia/ Sonhos Coloridos, a quem eu também sigo no Flickr. Acabadinha de terminar o seu curso de Decoração de Interiores e com a cabeça a fervilhar de boas ideias que publica regularmente no Deco Chic, um blog que mais parece um pacote de rebuçados com tantas fotos giras que tem e tanta cor. Além disso, ainda é cá das minhas e aplica-se nos crafts com uma alma muito portuguesa, no Portuguese Vintage, cheia de ideias simples e muito bonitas que nos fazem pensar “Porque é que não me lembrei disto antes?”. Visitem os blogs da Andreia, mas tenham cuidado com as vossas paredes!!

This girl I know was offered a white wall. She was told: “Do whatever you want wit it”. It could have been a plain white paper, but a white wall holds a bigger challenge and has almost no limits. A so she did. She started thinking and started to glue pages to it. Slowly. Little by little. For me, having seen this wall growing (via Flickr) during a whole afternoon, seemed as a brainstorm, some kind of rage due to the fact that that white wall was left abandoned for such a long time. And she treated it the way it deserved. And the end result is gorgeous!

The owner of this wall is Andreia/Sonhos Coloridos, whom I’ve been following on Flickr. She just finished an Interior Design course and her head is bursting with great ideas regularly shared on Deco Chic, a blog that is more like a candy bag because of all the great pictures and lots of colour in it. Aside from that, she’s also into my club and is a crafter with a very Portuguese soul, with simple and great ideas she posts on Portuguese Vintage that make us think “How come I never remembered doing this?”. Visit her blogs but please be careful with your walls!
